Tourism will become the main driver for 239 mahallas in Samarkand.

According to the deputy governor of Samarkand region, in 2022, Samarkand was visited by 1,204,000 foreign tourists and 4,247,000 local tourists, and the export of tourism services amounted to $197.6 million. In addition, plans for the future development of tourism in the region were presented, including attracting 1.5 million foreign tourists and increasing the export of tourism services to $250 million. To achieve this, 239 neighborhoods and 1144 guest houses will be involved, and facilities will be created for pilgrimage, classical, gastronomic, business, eco, agro, and shopping tourism. 104 family hotels, 105 catering establishments, and over 7,000 locals will be employed in the tourism industry. Ecotourism leisure zones will also be opened, and a five-day tourist program will be developed for visiting leisure zones, landmarks, and other attractions in Samarkand. This year, Samarkand will become the center of major international forums and conferences. 25 international events are planned, including the 25th session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, the 32nd Annual Meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the 2nd Meeting of the Strategic Dialogue "Council for Cooperation of Arab States of the Gulf - Central Asia."
